On Sunday eight children from Year 5 & 6, represented Firfield and Derbyshire in the Zone Final at Bradford Grammar School. We had both a girls’ team and a boys’ team in the under 11s competition. Each team played against three other schools from around the Midlands. All players showed great sporting behaviours and were super ambassadors for the school.

In the boy’s competition we made a great start. In the first match Callan, George and Sam all picked up impressive early wins. In the second match we came up against some excellent players from Nottinghamshire and in the third we were narrowly beaten. The boys battled hard showing great resilience, especially Ed, who came close in many of his matches, winning a number of games against some tough rivals. The boys ended up coming fourth place in the region. Well done you were amazing!

The girls team went one better winning all of their matches to top the group and go through to the National Finals. Yasmin and Elodie were unbeatable and played fantastically well. Eleanor showed some great skills to win the majority of her matches and Verity had a great win in the final round to confirm Firfield as CHAMPIONS. You are all superstars!

Mr Yellop felt very proud and pleased to have been able to watch some great sporting skills.
